Nah… actually it’s just from a love of music. My best friend and I have been obsessed with music since forever, but most of the music we like doesn’t have much merch (if there is any at all). So, I started making shirt designs just for the two of us. It felt special that we were the only ones in the world with them. But friends were interested, and I was encouraged to try and sell them online. But the goal was not to use any copyrighted materials. So definitely no imagery from the albums and artists. And I would make every attempt not to use unique artist names when possible. The artwork became insider details and hints that just the fans would recognize. And since these bands and musicians were usually not radio top 40 hits, knowing what the shirts meant felt like a secret society to me. So, if you see anything you recognize, welcome to the Society. And if not, that’s okay. Maybe you’ll find something new to look into, or just pass this along to a friend or loved one.
